Name the Practice You Are Building.

A name can describe your counseling business. It cannot replace the professional structure or license you need to provide care.

Choose the practice structure before the name

If you are opening a Texas counseling or family therapy practice, begin with the services, licenses, and proposed owners. Then choose the appropriate professional entity and a truthful name. Adding “Clinic” or “Management” to a standard LLC’s name does not turn it into a PLLC.

The Texas Secretary of State’s entity chart lists professional entity forms for licensed counselors and marriage/family therapists. Other occupations have different options. Your profession’s row is the starting point, followed by its current ownership and board requirements.

Our Launch plans include entity setup, operating documents, training, and legal email support. Discuss the planned practice with us before submitting a filing.

What Clinic, Staffing, Management, Rehab, and Consultants mean

The SOS chart names these five words as examples that remove the implication of a professional service from an entity name. That is naming guidance, not permission for the entity to provide licensed therapy.

For example, a business providing scheduling and administrative support to a counseling practice might accurately describe itself as a management company. If the entity will provide counseling to clients, a management label does not establish the professional authority it needs.

The practical question is who provides the clinical service. Under Texas Business Organizations Code §5.052, the name cannot imply a business the entity is not authorized to pursue. Choose a name that matches the actual operation; do not use an extra word to disguise it.

A filing acceptance does not authorize clinical work

The SOS instructions for ordinary LLC Form 205 direct professional-LLC applicants to Form 206. Professional ownership, governance, and practitioner requirements are separate under BOC chapter 301. Professional naming requirements also apply.

Bring the proposed owners’ license details, the practice name, and any existing LLC documents to the first conversation. If you plan to separate administration from clinical services, describe what each business will do. We can review that arrangement before drafting its documents.

Texas counseling practice names

Does adding Clinic or Management make an LLC a PLLC?
No. Those words may clarify what a name implies. A professional LLC has separate formation, ownership, and practice requirements.
Does every licensed Texas business need a PLLC?
No. The SOS chart allows ordinary entities for some occupations and professional entities for others. Check your profession and the services the business will provide.
Are those five words a guaranteed way to get a filing accepted?
No. They are guidance rather than a guarantee for a particular name. SOS acceptance also does not settle professional licensing or naming requirements.
Can my unlicensed spouse own part of the counseling PLLC?
Ownership in an ordinary business LLC does not establish eligibility to own a professional entity. We review the specific profession and every proposed owner before recommending the structure.
